OBGYN Reno, The Search For Support

By Sherry Gross

Conducting a successful search for an OBGYN does not have to be a painstaking process. Reno has done some amazing growth in many areas of business. The medical field is no different. Let's state the obvious in searching for OBGYN Reno in that your insurance may provide you with a list you are allowed to choose from. This being the case it does narrow down the potentials for you. Because your medical care is important if you have the opportunity put some time into the search.

Word of mouth is a powerful resource. Often when you ask your friends or family for such a referral you are bound to get a list of viable choices. If you have the luxury of getting such referrals, and are comfortable doing so, ask the important questions based on your needs. For instance if you are pregnant and looking at obstetrics being your main need, ask the questions that are related to that area of need. If you have had children, aren't planning on any more, are in the years where menopause is in your near future you want to know that the physician you select is up to date on treatment for such needs.

Referrals aren't always an option if you are new to an area and don't know people. If this is the case then you will need to do due diligence regarding finding an OBGYN. We often think that we have to make a scheduled check up appointment or new patient appointment in order to do this research. This is not true however. You can call the office and ask to make an appointment to speak with the doctor first. They should be more than willing to set aside thirty minutes to speak with a potential patient. This should occur without charge. Being comfortable with your physician is extremely important in regards to your health.

It is wise when preparing to find an OBGYN to make a list of your specific needs in that physician. Every woman has a different list of needs when it comes to this area of medical expertise. Depending on the stage of life you are in your needs will very drastically. A woman in childbearing years will have far different needs than that of a woman who is in that later stage in life where menopause is becoming an issue to be confronted. Whichever your needs are these needs will help you formulate your questions for a potential OBGYN.

Once you have made your list of questions contact a couple of different physicians and set up a time to talk to them about your specific needs if any. If you don't have any specific needs this may not be a necessary step to take.

When confronting specific medical needs, you as a patient, knowing your own body, should be asking questions based on those needs. Don't be afraid to ask the tough questions about treatment options and methods. Ask the questions about how current they are on new treatment options. Are they willing to research options you bring to them pertaining to your medical needs?

Whether you are confronting a medical situation that need immediate attention or are simply doing preventative care it is important to be your own advocate. Be open and honest with your OBGYN. Share with them your concerns and thoughts on treatments or preventative approaches. This relationship should be one in which you are comfortable discussing all options. Advocating for yourself is just one way in which to take an active approach to your health.

In the last twenty years Reno has grown in what it offers from the medical community. Not only has it grown in the number of physicians available, it has grown in its ability to offer cutting edge medical resources.
